This design is based on a bone rosary bead found on the Thames foreshore at Queenhithe, London, and recorded by the Portable Antiquities Scheme (ref: LON-78B66F). It probably dates to c1450-1550. One face of the bead features a young woman's face, wearing a wimple (late medieval headdress). The reverse features a skull: a reminder of life's fragility and fleeting nature.<\/p>
